Only 9% of all plastic is recycled

INTRODUCING
CLEAN UP®
MZANSI Fish and chips meal

Mzansi is truly the best when it comes to natural beauty and amazing wildlife. But if we don’t act now, all that beauty is in danger of being ruined by pollution – plastics in particular.

It’s no secret that we love our oceans. That’s where all our delicious seafood comes from, after all! But did you know that we also care about our bushveld, rivers, dams, mountains, suburbs, and cities? You can see this in our packaging, which is 100% recyclable, and in our commitment to fishing with the future in mind. Now, we’re taking our commitment a step further with our new Clean Up® Mzansi CSI initiative.

WHAT IS
CLEAN UP® MZANSI?

Clean Up® Mzansi is our way of showing how much we love South Africa. Like any other living thing, South Africa needs a steady supply of clean water in order to thrive. The unfortunate truth is that our precious life-giving waterways have become filled with pollution, especially plastics. The pollution comes from as far away as inland cities, being washed down storm drains, into rivers and eventually into the ocean, causing harm to the delicate ecosystem.

Through Clean Up® Mzansi, we will be holding clean-ups across the country to clear our nation of pollution. We’ll be picking up litter everywhere, from the beach to the bushveld, from the streets to the rivers, and from the neighbourhoods to the office parks. So, if you’re also a proud South African who wants to keep our beautiful country clean, whether you live inland or on the coast, in a rural town or a big city, you can get involved and start making a difference in your community.

HERE ARE FIVE QUICK FACTS ABOUT HOW PLASTIC POLLUTION AFFECTS OUR COUNTRY:

Fishaways marketing manager Sindi Myeza had this to say:

“The takeaway industry has a critical role to play in protecting the oceans and the environment. Takeaway restaurants are a major contributor to plastic waste, especially due to the use of disposable packaging materials such as plastic cups, straws, and cutlery. These materials often end up in the ocean, remaining there and threatening marine life.”

AS YOU CAN SEE, AN INITIATIVE LIKE CLEAN UP® MZANSI IS EXACTLY WHAT WE NEED TO ENSURE A BETTER FUTURE FOR OUR COUNTRY.

OTHER WAYS WE’RE HELPING THE OCEANS

Our commitment to keeping Mzansi clean doesn’t end with our clean-ups. We are also doing our best to stop pollution at its source. Our packaging is already recyclable, and by the end of 2023 we aim for it all to be 100% biodegradable and compostable too! We are also phasing out plastic cutlery, in favour of more eco-friendly options.

It starts with you, so always make the better choice. Choose recyclable packaging, choose responsible sourcing, choose to Clean Up® Mzansi with Fishaways. Together, we can make a difference.
